Workshop Schedule with Links to Instructors' Notes

Scroll down to Table 1 for a detailed schedule of the events by day.

This schedule assumes that you will conduct the workshop as an eight-day intensive workshop, spanning over two weeks. There should be a weekend break between day four and day five to set apart the different focus of each week. The first week (days one through four) gives learners experience in using Web-based tools as learners in a hybrid model class. The second week focuses on learning to use the tools in order to provide instruction. A weekend between these two modes will help learners make the shift.

For each module, there is a link to the reading or activity presented to the workshop participants, if applicable. Where we had guest speakers, we often did not have a page for that segment. However, we do provide instructors' notes for each module. These notes include objectives, suggestions for how to run the module, and our rationale for including the learning activity and our teaching methods. In some situations, you may want to use different activities to support the objectives of your institution. You will certainly need to use different software tools throughout the workshop to match what is available at your institution.

On each day, we began at 9:00 am and ran the morning session until noon, with a break for coffee, snacks and socializing in between. Lunch was taken together in the main cafeteria, paid for by our department. The afternoon session ran from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a break similar to the morning session.

We met in one of our teaching labs for most of the week. This allowed for demonstrations and hands-on activities as well as presentations and group work. In order to make snack breaks convenient, we chose one lab that has a small alcove adjoining it where refreshments could be served and which also worked for several small break-out sessions during the workshop.
