Laboratory
- Tuesday June 3 Stoichiometry of a Reaction
- Thursday June 5
- Standardizations and Acid-Base Titrations
- Your TA will review and make comments on your laboratory notebooks in
lab. She will indicate what you are doing well and what you need to improve.
You need to use this information to learn to keep a good lab notebook and
practice this knowledge in this course. At the end of the summer session,
your notebooks will be collected , evaluated and then assigned a grade.
Notebooks are worth 30 points out of the total 150 lab points.
Quiz 2
Thursday June 5 on Chapter 4 and part of Chapter 5
Grade to date
- You can access egradebook (electronic gradebook) by going to the UMD homepage
and then typing in egradebook after the /
- http://www.d.umn.edu/egradebook
- You will be asked to enter your username and password to gain access to
your grades.
Advice
- We have completed two weeks of a seven week course (almost 30%) and the
next five weeks will go very fast.
- Although 30% of the class periods are done, only 130 points (1 quiz and 1 exam) out of 600 lecture points have been determined. This is
only 22% of the graded work. So there is definitely time to improve your grade,
but if you are not doing as well as you had hoped, you have to make changes
in your study strategies or your grade will not change.
- Your TAs and I are eager to help you in this course. I have 4 office hours
per week or can meet by appointment. Your TAs are available after lab.
- Here is a UMD rule of thumb: For every hour you are in class, you are expected
to study 2-3 hours outside of class. For Chem 1151, we spend 8 hours in class
per week. This translates to 16-24 hours per week that you should be studying
Chem 1151 outside of class. I know that many of you are working 20-40 hours
per week and finding the 16-24 hours of study time is not easy. But to be
successful in this course, you need to commit to this. Your study time will
be much more productive if you ask questions, get help and don't get behind.
