Course Cancel/Add Policy
CLA strictly enforces the University’s deadlines for adding and canceling courses:
Adding Courses:
- You have until the end of the second day of the term to add an open course.
- You can seek permission to add a closed course by contacting the course instructor or the department. If granted approval to add the course, you will receive a “permission number” that, in turn, you will enter into the registration system to enroll in the course.
- Between the third day of the semester and the end of the second week (10th day of classes), you can add a course using a “permission number.” Once the semester begins, permission numbers are usually obtained from the course instructor.
- Courses may not be added after the end of the second week of classes . Students seeking an exception to this policy must petition through CLA Student Affairs and Advising Center. Documented extenuating circumstances must exist for petitions to be considered for approval.
Canceling Courses:
- If you withdraw from a course before the end of the second week of classes, then the course is removed from your permanent record.
- Course withdrawals between the third week and the end of the eighth week remain on your permanent record. A grade of “W” will be added to your transcript. The course is not calculated into your grade point average; however, it will count against your completion ratio.
- Course withdrawals are not permitted after the end of the eighth week. Students seeking an exception to this policy must petition through CLA Student Affairs and Advising Center. Documented extenuating circumstances must exist for petitions to be considered for approval.
