Bio: Carmen M. Latterell is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). She holds a BA from the College of St. Scholastica (Duluth, MN), a MS from the University of Minnesota, and a PhD from the University of Iowa. She has been awarded both UMD's highest teaching award and University of Minnesota's highest teaching award, at which time she was awarded the title Distinguished University Teaching Professor. The Mathematical Association of America North Central Section named her the 2013 Distinguished University Teacher of Mathematics. She was awarded a 2.9 million grant from NSF in 2007 to work with science and math graduate students. She has over thirty journal publications and three books: Math Wars, Helping Students Prepare for College Mathematics Placement Tests, and Mathematical Metaphors, Memories, and Mindsets.
