University of Minnesota Duluth

Life Story

I was born and raised in South Korea. However, I received my Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Upon receiving my Ph.D in 2005, I moved to Duluth, Minnesota to teach linguistics at UMD. At first, Duluth was a hard city to love due to its long and harsh winters. As time passes, I realize that the city has so much to offer. I am now happy to live here as a Duluthian, enjoying the winter (sort of). I live here with my wife (Bridget) who also works at UMD and daughter (Angela) who does not work at UMD yet :-). I am also happy to see UMD grow academically as well as physically every year. It is a wonderful place to teach and do my research. Below are some pictures of my family.
