Tim can hear a group of jocks behind him teasing a girl about going home to the Twin Cities every weekend to see her boyfriend. “So what’s Ryan doing this weekend?” one of them says. “Aren’t you worried about him down there alone?”

The girl smiles and takes a sip of beer from an enormous plastic cup that one of the jocks just brought to her.

On the stereo, a song starts with a loping, heavy riff:

Somebody once told me
The world is gonna roll me
I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed.

“These are you college years!” says another one of jocks.

"Someday you’ll look back at now," says the first guy, "And all you'll remember is the Black Bear Casino going by on I-35."

The girl just laughs.
