Character AIPE Pages:
From Pieces of Content to Design Scheme

Today we will work in groups.

Each group will come up with a design scheme of a AIPE-style home page for a fictional character of your choice.

The character can be from books, film, television, etc., or could be a real person from history. The character should not currently have a personal web site.

On the web, find pictures, quotes, lists, words, fonts, colors, visual styles, etc. that represent that character's 2-4 themes.

Post each piece of content in replies to the group's forum--see "Character Design Scheme Group Work (AIPE Project)" on Moodle-- so we can see and discuss them.

Make all images visible using the instructions from the Techniques Site.

The last posting in the forum should be collaboratively written in your group:

  1. idenifying the 2-4 themes
  2. describing how the items work together to suggest the themes
  3. explaining themes provide insights into what makes that character distinct and individual
  4. speculating on how these characterizing themes could be expressed and elaborated (used repeatedly but not repetitiously) in a home page design.

Via the Forums link, I have provided a Wiki for each group to write collaboratively outside of class.

In the case of characters from visual media like film and television, take care that the home page you describe expresses how particular charactrer sees him- or herself, rather than the page simply replicating the design scheme of the movie or show.
