Informal Sick Leave and Formal Medical Leave policies are addressed in the University of Minnesota Academic Professional and Administrative Staff Policies and Procedures manual.

All P&A employees in the School of Business and Economics should follow the process defined below when sick leave has been/will be used. While P&A employees do not "earn" sick leave and no "balance" will be calculated, some procedure for recording its use will be helpful for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) purposes.

Process:

• Submit vacation/sick leave card to supervisor. If leave is taken for FMLA purposes, mark the card accordingly.

• Your supervisor should sign the card and submit it to the dean's office.

• Sick leave will be recorded on your vacation record (as ".5S" for 1/2 day, for example); no balance will be kept.
