  • Citing References in Papers

    The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th Edition, 2009) is the official reference adopted by the Department of Social Work as a guide for citing references in papers. This manual is available for purchase in the UMD Main Street Bookstore and is on reserve in the UMD Library. This manual has limited information on citing internet and other new media references, and there is less standardization for these types of citations. The following links provide guidelines for citing internet and other new media sources.

    You can also search the internet to find additional resources on the World Wide Web. In general, you will go to a search engine and type in a term for which you would like to find Web-based resources. Generally, if you have two or more words in the topic that you are searching, it will be more efficient to put quotations marks -- " -- around the topic.
