Instructions for Certificate Program Admission and Completion

Thank you for your interest in this certificate program offered by Continuing Education (CE) at the University of Minnesota Duluth.  The certificate program brochure has detailed information about several different CE certificate programs.  You may have a brochure mailed to you by calling (218)726-7878, or pick one up on the UMD campus at the CE registration windows in the Darland Administration Building lobby, or in Career Services, 21 Campus Center or by Dr. David A. McCarthy - Director of the Educational Computing and Technoloigy Certificate Program (218)726-6236 at 120 Montague Hall - Department of Education.

  1. To initiate the application process, please contact Career Services, 21 Campus Center @ (218)726-7985.  Please specify whether the certificate you plan to pursue is at the undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate, or noncredit level.
  2. Return the completed applicationto:  UMD Career Services, Attn.: CE Counselor, 21 Campus Center, 10 University Drive, Duluth, MN  55812-2496 with a non-refundable admission application fee of $25 (check or money order) made payable to the University of Minnesota Duluth. 
  3. Request an official high school transcript or General Equivalency Diploma/GED scores if required.
  4. Request an official college transcript from each college you have attended.  University of Minnesota transcripts may be unofficial copies (obtain a UMD transcript request form from the Campus Center Information Desk or call (218)726-8850.  Official transcripts from other schools may be attached or sent directly to: UMD Career Services, Attn.: CE Counselor, 21 Campus Center, 10 University Drive, Duluth, MN 55912-2496.  Indicate on the application form if you have previously been admitted to a degree or certificate program at UMD and transcripts are already on file.
  5. A separate admission application must be submitted for each certificate program you are applying to (only one admission fee is required).
  6. To be considered for certificate admission for a particular semester, COMPLETE applications must be received in 21 Campus Center no later than two weeks before the first day of the semester.  Certificate admissions received after that date will be considered for the following semester.
  7. If you expect to receive financial aid, you must be admitted to a certificate or degree program at UMD prior to enrollment.  Contact a representative in the Student Assistance Center, 21 Campus Center, (218)726-8000, for more information regarding financial aid.  Note:  The Noncredit Certificate in Education Computing and Technology does NOT qualify for financial aid.
  8. You will receive a letter notifying you of your admission status after your completed application is received and evaluated.
  9. Contact a CE counselor (218)726-7985 if you have any questions regarding the certificate admission or any issues about course transfer which might affect your registration for an upcoming semester.
  10. THE COMPLETED CERTIFICATE ADMISSION APPLICATION THEN INCLUDES:  (A).  Application form         (B). Admission application fee of $25  (C).  An official high school trnscript or General Equivalency Diploma/GED scores (if required)  (D).  An official college transcript from each college you have attended.   (University of Minnesota transcripts may be unofficial copies).

Certificate requirements are subject to modification. UMD Continuing Education will make every reasonable effort to assist admitted students in completing a program. There is no time limit on the use of credits. Students may not be enrolled in more than three certificate programs at one time.

Certificate Completion

  1. When you begin your last semester of classes for your certificate, request certificate completion application materials by contacting Career Services, 21 Campus Center (218)726-7985.  A separate Certificate Completion Application form and a $25 certificate completion fee must be submitted for each certificate completed.
