2. Introduction: Newsletter organization description; newsletter audience description; your role as author.
3. Completed Five Question Topic Selection Test
4. Seven Stage Writing Process Summary--make it reflective
5. Completed Peer Review (not graded)
6. Sample Newsletter
7. Newsletter article: Eight hundred words formatted according to the sample.
Description: You should select a newsletter for an organization with which you have a high degree of familiarity. The audience for this newsletter should be one which you can clearly identify according to the audience's needs, interests and values. The 800 word article you write should address a topic which this particular audience will want to read. One of your challenges is breaking through the clutter of information available to audiences.
As noted in your syllabus, this piece should be up-to-date, timely and informative. Depending on the newsletter where you hope to publish this piece, your topic may be quite narrow and specialized. You may need to do research in the library and conduct interviews with experts. Your topic might concern a new policy being implemented by the organization, or it might introduce a service or new employee/volunteer. Alternatively, the article might raise controversial issues within the organization. As the author of this piece you might take on the role of a Department Head, such as a Human Resources Director, Safety Manager, or Diversity Services.
This piece should conform to the style of the newsletter you have selected in terms of both style and format; however, you are expected to use correct spelling and grammar even if your sample is more casual about these rules. Attach a copy of the sample newsletter to your assignment. On a separate sheet of paper write a paragraph explaining the organization, a description of the audience for this newsletter (needs, interests, etc.), and the role/function you have assumed as author of this article. This brief introductory paragraph will not be counted as part of your 800 words.
Grading standards:

Falling short of all of the objective standards will yield a D.
