Group Project Proposals for Instrumental Analysis Laboratory
Each working group shall propose the determination of two separate analytes,
each by a different instrumental technique. The analytes may be present in a
single sample substance, or in two different materials.
Prepare a separate proposal for each analyte to be determined. For each of
your two analysis projects include the following.
- Project Title
- Your names
- Project Description and Analytical Objective
- Discuss the type of the sample material to be analyzed and the analyte(s)
to be determined. Include a brief review of the nature of the sample matrix
and its typical composition, including the predicted levels of the target
analyte(s)
- Materials needed. This should be a detailed list of materials that you will
need to perform the analysis.
- Equipment
- Chemicals
- Supplies
- Experimental Plan
- Brief description of the experimental approach. Specifically, include
- Sample preparation
- Instrumental method to be used
- Detailed description of the procedure.
- The procedure should be based on a published method for analysis
of a sample material that is identical or similar to the material
you have selected. It may be necessary to modify the published method
for the sample and resources available. These issues should be clearly
addressed in this section.
- In addition to the procedural details described above, include a
specific plan for preparation and calibration standards, and an evaluation
of whether the detection limits of the selected method are appropriate
for the analysis.
- Timeline
- References
- Include at least one published reference on which your method is based.
Attach a copy of one key reference.
