On November 10th, 1975 the great lakes shipping freighter SS Edmund Fitzgerald was caught in a severe storm and eventually sank. The ship sent out no distress signal and sank to a depth of about 530 ft near Whitefish Bay in Canadian waters causing all 29 crew members to perish.
