My regular office hours are posted on my office door each semester. Students are also welcome to contact me by phone or email to schedule an appointment.
As part of student advising and teaching, I strongly encourage my students to apply for research grants, including UROPs and CLA research awards, and to present their work at appropriate conferences.
Student Research Support:
I have been fortunate to be the faculty sponsor for six Undergraduate Research Opportunity Grants, 1999 to present:

- CLA Undergraduate Research Activity Award: 2006; Supported Daniel Bunting's project "Black Manhood and the New York City Jazz Community." This award supported Dan's participation in an archival project in association with the Columbia University Rare Book and Manuscript Library, cataloging 315 photographs in the Eddie Locke Collection (1954-1980). Based on this project and his previous work with Eddie Locke, Dan presented a paper, " 'That's What They Taught Me:' Fellowship and Lessons of Black Manhood in the New York City Jazz Community," at the conference Researching New York 2006: African Americans in New York, at the University of Albany - SUNY, Albany, NY, November 16-18, 2006.
- CLA Undergraduate Research Activity Award: 2005; Supported Daniel Bunting's project "Research on Black Nationalism in New York City." The award supported the research and writing for the paper "Black Nationalism in New York City: Perspective by Eddie Locke." This paper was presented at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Ashville, NC, April 6-8, 2006. Dan was awarded additional funds ($800.00) by the Dean of CLA to support his travel and expenses at NCUR.
