Objectives:
- Students will sort animals by when they are active: by day or by night (Review greetings)
- Students will recite a poem about animals
Materials:
- Buenas noches
- "El pingüino", p. 14; "¿Qué es el gato?", "¿Qué es la gaviota", p. 25; "Vuelo de colibrí", p. 28; "Murciélagos", p. 36 [de Poemas con sol y son]
- Pictures of clocks (8:00 am, 3:00 pm, 9:00 pm)
- Word placas, greetings
Activities:
- Skim book (Buenas noches) to see which animals are active by night
- Brainstorm: animals active by day
- Reading (poem)/Recitation
- Teacher chatter, for any new vocabulary
Script:
M: Buenas tardes, clase. Vamos a repasar los saludos. Repitan: Buenos días. (Show clock 8:00 am). [Repeat for Buenas tardes and Buenas noches.]
M. En las últimas clases estudiamos muchos animales y sus características. En este libro (Buenas noches), vemos que hay ciertos animales que son activos durante la noche. ¿Cuáles son? [Show book, and have students name animals.] Make a list.
M: A ver, ¿qué animales son más activos durante el día? [Students brainstorm.]
M: Vamos a aprender un poema y recitarlo. ["Murciélagos" is tied to the day/night theme. "Vuelo de colibrí" uses metaphors, as do "¿Qué es la gaviota?" and "¿Qué es el gato", which also are very brief (3 lines each). "El pingüino connects to clothing and weather.]
