M: Hoy vamos a ver una casa azteca y una escuela azteca. (leer la cultura, pág 12 y crear un cartel de la casa para que vean mejor: señalar las expresiones subrayadas en el cartel)
Aztec people lived in low, flat-roofed houses, techo. Most often families only had one main room, cuarto principal. Many people needed working areas as well as living rooms, salas. Craftsmen, for example, needed workshops, and merchants needed storerooms, cuartos grandes.
Houses, casas, were built around a central courtyard, patio. Here the children could play and the women could spin and sew. People spent a lot of time outside, just as they do today in Mexico. Mexico has a hot and sunny climate, mucho calor y sol. Most houses were bordered on at least one side by a canal, canal.
Inside, houses were rather plain, with white walls, paredes blancas. The floors, suelos, were hard earth. Everyone sat and slept on reed mats on the floor, suelo.
Clothes and valuables were stored in wicker baskets, canastas. The palaces of the emperor were a little more comfortable, with tables and chairs, mesas y sillas.

M: Tenemos una hoja de casa (Parvulos 13, type in the vocab. in order for students to share with reading family members, ej:…sofá). Find and circle 10 things from above that aren’t in the drawing below. Then, we’ll name the rooms and furniture. This will be fun to share at home too, en su casa.
M: Miren el reloj. Terminamos pronto. Terminamos con una rima. (The child who is “the Aztec,” stands outside the circle, then enters to choose a replacement—the original version has “el Conejo” from “Los pollitos dicen”)
