ELEMENTARY SPANISH CURRICULUM PROJECT

First Grade: Script Topic 5 (Numbers): Lesson Plan 7

(Last Updated: August 18, 2005)

M: Buenos días, clase.

E: Hola, Señorita....

M: Hoy vamos a practicar los números. Hoy vamos a sumar en español. Miren. ¿Cuántos son 1 más 1? [Show the calculation on board (1 + 1 = 2) and with objects. Put up words under the math calculation on the board (Uno más Uno son Dos).] Repitan, uno más uno son dos. (Varias veces). [Repartir los números u objetos, para individuos o parejas.] (1) Ahora, ¿Cuántos son dos más dos? (2) (Continuar.) (3) (4) (5)

[If students tire or get bored, you could finish up with the "Diez Deditos" song.

M: Bueno, clase. Eso es todo para hoy. Adiós.

-----

Nota (1): District math program works first with 1+1, 2+2, 3+3, ...; then 2+1, 3+1, 4+1, ....

Nota (2): Students (I suggest having them work in pairs) count out objects, putting the correct number of objects in two piles and the numeral card at the end. Then you would call on pairs of students, or all the students together, to say the phrase.

Nota (3): Variations: You could have students come to the board in pairs and do the math problem there.

Nota (4): How high the addition goes depends on where students are in math class. I would probably limit this to "10" for this first time.

Nota (5): This lesson can be repeated throughout the remainder of the year. Students should always have done the work first in math class; this lesson is designed to reinforce the other class.
