ELEMENTARY SPANISH CURRICULUM PROJECT
Third Grade: Lesson Plan Topic 10: House

This topic is covered in earlier grades. There are enough lessons in other topics for Grade 3 that I chose to make this an extra topic. I have placed all of Julie's lessons on this one page.

Objectives:
- Students will hear, use, and see terms of the house: la casa, el apartamento, la ciudad, el campo, el palacio.
- Students will understand and use: "¿Cuánto cuesta (por mes)?", "Cuesta ..."
Materials:
- Visuals for the new terms
- Photos of the different living spaces, Duluth and Spanish-speaking world.

Objectives:
- Students will hear, see and use terms of house rooms: el cuarto de baño, la sala, el dormitorio, la cocina.
Materials:

- TPR (Baño: showering motion, sala: sitting, cocina: cooking, dormitorio: sleeping)*
* Can play Simon dice or another action game with the motions.

Objectives:
- Students will hear and respond to: “¿De que cuarto es?”
- Students will hear and use terms for rooms of the house: el cuarto de baño, la sala, el dormitorio, la cocina.
- Students will hear the terms for different household items.
Materials:
Activities:
- Students will each receive a household item. They will one by one place the item in the appropriate room (should be designated with a picture... culturally accurate depiction of the different rooms). When they place their item in the specific room, they will say the name of the room.

Objectives:
- Students will create an advertisement using the house vocabulary.
- Students will decide which advertisement is the best for their needs.
Materials:
- Paper, markers, drawing materials to make advertisements.
Activities:
- Group Work
- Students will create an advertisement in groups of two or three. They can decide between casa o piso o palacio, number of rooms, what price they will sell it for, and where it is located (in a Spanish-speaking city). They will include vocabulary that they have previously acquired. (1)

Objectives:
- Students will finish/present their ad for their house.
Materials:
- Paper, markers, drawing materials to make advertisements./ Finished ad.
Activities:
- Students can finish up their advertisements if needed,and then present their ad.
- Class decides which advertisement is the best for them (class vote).

Objectives:
- Students will hear and use house vocabulary: el sótono, el garaje, la primera planta, la planta baja, el ático.
- Students will associate items with rooms.
Materials:
- Household items
- Visuals of the new vocabulary terms
Activities:
- Teacher Chatter
- Repetition/One-word answers
- Game: Students will play a variation of around the world. They will have household items and have to name the room it is from in order to advance. A picture of the room and visual of the word should be posted for them to see.

- Students will use the house vocabulary.*

- Students will draw a replica of their own house/apartment. They will label the rooms of the house with the vocabulary that they have learned throughout the past unit. Finished replicas will be posted around the room.
