ELEMENTARY SPANISH CURRICULUM PROJECT
Third Grade: Lesson Plan Topic 11: City

Objectives:
- Students will hear and use the terms: la ciudad, la plaza, la calle, el mercado, el puente, la fuente.
- Students will associate/compare these city structures with similar structures in their own town.
Materials:
- Photos of city areas (these photos should be from the target culture)
Activities:
- Teacher Chatter
- Repetition/One-word answers
- Comparison: After students have learned the terms in Spanish, they will be asked to come up with the same structures in their town and then in their country (if it is easier). For example, el puente can have a picture of a bridge in a Spanish-speaking country and then students can come up with the lift bridge in Canal Park for Duluth.

- Students will hear and use the terms: el parque, la glorieta, el estadio, el museo
- Students will understand and respond accordingly to: "¿Cómo es?", "¿Cuándo se usa?"
- Students will use descriptive frases: Es grande/bonito.
- Students will talk about when they are used: Se usa en el invierno/la primavera/el verano/el otoño/todas las estaciones. (1)
Materials:
- Drawing supplies
- Pictures of the city areas (should be taken from the target culture) (2)
Activities:
- Teacher Chatter
- Repetition /One-word answers/Short answers
- Students will draw a picture of any of the city vocabulary they have learned.

Nota (2) (Eileen Zeitz): For example, estadios de fútbol (La Boca, etc.), Parque Retiro (Madrid), El Prado or similar museum that can be toured "virtually"(see http://www.d.umn.edu/~ezeitz) for a link to Art; at that site there are links to such museums).
