Third Grade: Lesson Plan Topic 13: Signs/Maps/Directions/Location

Objectives:
- Students will understand and use the new words of enfrente de, detrás de, debajo de, encima de, al lado de
- Students will understand: "¿Dónde están?"; "Están..."
Materials:
- Visuals of the new phrases
- Word placas
- Castañuelos
Activities:
- Teacher chatter
- Repetition/One-word answers
- Place the castañuelos in a different position in relation to different objects in the room. Then ask the class to answer where they are placed. If there is time, students can participate in a TPR activity with these terms by placing either themselves or an object in the called position.

- Students will understand and use: cuadro, seguir, derecho, doblar, a la izquierda, a la derecha, ¿Dónde está ... ?
Materials:
- Visuals of the new terms
- Word placas
Activities:
- Teacher Chatter
- Repetition/One-word answer
- TPR: Students will be told to go left, right, straight, turn, etc. This could also be played as a “Simón dice” game.

- Students will use all of their acquired vocabulary: cuadro, seguir, derecho, doblar, a la izquierda, a la derecha, ¿Dónde está ... ?, Está enfrente de/detrás de/debajo de/encima de/al lado de
- Students will follow directions on a map to find a destination.
- Students will understand: “el plano.”
Materials:
- Plano de Toledo, España (or another city from the Spanish-speaking world)
Activities:
Students will listen as directions are given. They will also receive a copy of the directions. They should follow the directions from one famous spot in Toledo to another. They can work in small groups or individually to complete the task.

- Plano de Madrid
- List of places for them to give directions.
Activities:
Students will give directions to get from one historical site to another in Madrid, España. This may be a difficult task so students can begin by doing it as a class and then break off into smaller groups.
