ELEMENTARY SPANISH CURRICULUM PROJECT

Third Grade: Lesson Plan Topic 1: Names / Greetings / Numbers / Alphabet

Objectives:

• Students will carry out math calculations: addition, subtraction, multiplications
• Students will be introduced to the alphabet in Spanish

Materials:

• Name Tags
• Calendar           
• Visuals with numbers 1-20, 30, 40, 50           
• Cultural items with prices. (Or items you could buy at a market)

Script:

M: Buenos Días, clase. Hoy es el [número] de [mes].  ¿Como están? E: Muy bien, gracias..

M: Qué bueno.  Yo estoy muy bien también.   Hoy vamos a calcular el precio de dos objetos. ¿Cuánto cuestan esta pelota y esta camisa? [Sumar] [Repetir con varios objetos.]

M: ¿Si estas cinco pelotas cuestan cincuenta pesos en total, 10 pesos cada pelota, y si quito una pelota [esconder una pelota], cuánto cuestan las cuatro pelotas, en total? [Restar] [Repetir con varios objetos.]

M: ¿Si esta camisa cuesta 5 pesos, y quiero tres camisas, cuánto custan en total? [Multiplicar] [Repetir con varios objetos.]

M: Bueno, ¿cuántas letras hay en el alfabeto? E: 26. M: Vamos a aprender el alfabeto en español, y averiguar cuántas letras hay en el alfabeto en español. a-b-c-ch-d-e-f-g-h-i-j-k-l-ll-m-n-ñ-o-p-q-r-rr-s-t-u-v-w-x-y-z. (Mostrar una tarjeta para cada letra.) ¿Cuántas letras hay en español? Vamos a contar: 1-2-3-etc. Hay 30 letras en el alfabeto en español.* Es diferente que en inglés.

M: Ahora vamos a ver unos sitios en el web y practicar con los números y el alfabeto.*

M: Aquí les tengo una hoja para hacer en casa. Deben escribir las letras o los números (número + palabra) que faltan, según el patrón.*

• 1 (uno) , 3 (tres), 5 (cinco), __, __, __, 13 (trece), (etc)

*Notas

• Yo sé que han modernizado el alfabeto un poco. Pero creo que vale la pena mostrar estas letras, y sirve para contar, como también para indicar que hay diferencias entre las dos lenguas (y culturas).

• A different activity would be to have students color a letter of the alphabet or a number (each student has a different letter or number) and then the students put themselves in order and read their letter/number. (see http://www.doslourdes.net/colorea_el_abecedario.htm)
• Another activity would be to have students pass a ball around a circle, and each successive student has to say the letter of the alphabet.
• The patterning exercise corresponds to one of the third grade objectives of the Duluth Public Schools. This may be too early in the school year, and may have to be held back for later, as a review.
