Third Grade: Lesson Plan Topic 5: Animals

Objectives:

• Students will be able to say the names of animals that live in different places
• Students will graph how many animals within each place

Materials:

• Place Names
• Photos of animals
• Paper for graph
• Calendar

Activities:

Script:

M: Buenos días, clase. Hoy es el [número] de [mes]. ¿Cómo están? E: Bien, gracias.

M: Ahora, vamos a ver cuánto recuerdan de los animales. ¿Qué animales podemos poner en estos lugares? (Have place names on board. Have students take turns picking a picture and naming the animal, and posting the animal under a/the correct term.) (Repeat for Zoológico, Casa, Selva...)* (You could do a Kidspiration map, also.)

M: Ahora vamos a hacer una gráfica que muestra los números. (Have students practice graphing, by drawing bar graph. Y axis has numbers 0-20; X axis has names of places [Jardín, ...]. Student are graphing the numbers of animals pictured on the board under each place.*

M: Bueno, clase, ya termina la clase. Son las 4:00 de la tarde.   Hasta el (lunes).  ¡Hasta luego! E: Adios.

*Notas

• This serves as an evaluation of, primarily, student learning of animal names, and secondarily, of places.
• This practices graphing, which is part of the third grade curriculum in Duluth.
