You should work on this throughout the semester. I have put a suggested start date for this portion. I have not put due dates along the way for several reasons: 1) some things cannot be done (well) until you have done certain readings; 2) some things (articles) will take time to find; 3) the reading assignments are often long, so I want to give you the flexibility to fit these projects in as your schedule allows; 4) you are adults and professionals and should not need due dates.
(Reaction papers should be 1-2 pp. typed, reacting to key information in the reading. Some of these assignments call for summaries, as well. Reviews should address specific questions posed in the assignment.)
1. If you are in the K-12 program, review a high school text (copies in H 452) in your target language. Examine it for: a) organization and methodology (extent to which it follows methods studied in class); b) extent to which there is structured input for grammar; c) use of target language (extensive; mixed; limited; regional); d) attention to all four modalities; e) culture (authentic; limited; stereotypes); f) attention to national standards; g) appeal to students. ***Be certain your review includes the bibliographic information about the text (authors, title, etc.), and the level for which it is intended (Language I, II, etc.).***
OR
If you are in the Elementary program, review the "Spanish in 1st and 2nd Grades" videos 1-5 (on reserve). Consider: a) target language vs. native language use; b) classroom management; c) resources; d) learning / acquisition; e) any other item which catches your attention.
