History:

MWAH was named after Mr. Marshall William Alworth (1882-1980) in 1975. Alworth, in addition to his many civic projects, set up the Alworth Memorial Fund providing scholarships to students in medicine and in the natural sciences. The Planetarium was built in 1965-67 and cost $200k, and the Hall was built in 1972-74 and cost $3.6 million. Marshall W. Alworth Hall was originally called the Classroom-Laboratory Building, and housed physics, the computer center, and the graduate school of social work.
