WHY LEARN GERMAN?

1. Learning German provides deeper insights into a region that plays a vital role in central Europe's intellectual life and cultural history

2.German is the language of Goethe, Nietzsche, Kafka, Christa Wolf, Elfriede Jellinek, Herta Müller. . . . Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Freud and Einstein also spoke German. The Wise Guys and Die Prinzen speak it today.

3. 18% of all books are published in German.

4. German is the second-most commonly used scientific language. OVer 25 million people all over the world learn German as a second language.

5. Germany is home to numerous international corporations.

6. Germany was the world's biggest exporter in 2006 for a fourth consecutive year.

7. Germany is the 5th largest economy overall and the world's third most technologically powerful economy after the US and Japan.

8. 2800 German firms reside in the US and approximately 1600 US firms reside in Germany.

9. Germany has the 3rd largest music market in the world, after the US and Japan.

10. Germany continues to be the U.S.s' largest trading partner in Europe
