A Writer of Passions

Chocolate. Biking. Writing.

While eating chocolate and going for bike rides are two of my favorite past times, I can't get a job and earn money with either of the two. Thus, I'm a third year English major and journalism minor at UMD. Still, I find my studies enjoyable. And who says I can't read while sitting on a bike in the Rec Center or enjoy chocolate while writing a paper?

one chocolate

Chocolate.

Several chocolatesDark, mint, raspberry, almond, orange. With almonds, with hazelnut, with peanuts. Yes, I'll confess, I'm an addict. My boyfriend hardly minds that I have an addiction, as I got him addicted, too! While he studied abroad in Germany, he fed my addiction still; German and Swiss chocolate found its way to me from Freiburg, Germany to Duluth, Minnesota.

Biking.

Dad and me with bikesIn the summer of 2004, I biked 750 miles. I spent my time on the Gateway Bike Trail that travels from north of Stillwater through St. Paul past Lake Phalen. I usually biked alone, but sometimes my father would accompany me on my bike trips. I've also biked on one of the islands off of the coast of Ireland with a couple friends of mine. It was a great way to get around and see the sights -- and work off that Irish stew.

Writing.

Leather bookI like to write for fun in my leather bound journal which I received from my brother for Christmas in 2007. Serious writing, such as work for school or freelance magazine reporting, is done in Word documents on my laptop. I aspire to put my love for reading and writing to use someday as a copy editor for a magazine or newspaper. I currently hold a copy editing position with the UMD student newspaper, "The Statesman," and I'm loving it.
