Instructional strategies/problem solving
The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students’ development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.



Example 1: Primary Sources

One skill essential to all developing historians is the ability to analyze primary sources.  Here is one example of a lesson
 plan which has the examiniation of sources as the focus.

Example 2: Examination of Oral Traditions

Sources are very important to historians but what happens when one culture
has a lack of conventional sources like documents, paintings, photos, etc.
This lesson deals with such a culture.

Example 3: Internet Proficiency
Tomorrow's historians will need computer skills.  An amazing number of primary documents and sources are constantly
being uploaded onto the internet.  Here is an exampleof student work form a lesson that helped develop this skill.  For the activity each student had
to research a particualr U.S. state.  Using only the internet they had to create an informative display.
