Principle 5:

Motivation and behavior

The teacher uses an understanding individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagements in learning, and self-motivation.

Example: Personal Understanding of the importance of motivating students

Motivating students should be the cornerstone to all teachers'
instructional methods.  My personal experiences have lead my
to place a good deal of importance on the subject of motivation

Personal Narrative on Motivation

Example: Transferring my beliefs to the classroom

While I may be passionate on the subject of motivation I also try
to take that motivation into my planning and into consideration
when I come up with ideas for lessons.  Here is one lesson
where I tried to make students feel as if they "own" the material.
I think the greatest motivation for students is their natural
inquistiveness; this lesson takes advantage of that.

Lesson plan: "Answer your own questions!"
