Sylabus

Course format: Two hours lecture and two hours lab each week
Meeting time: to be arranged.
Text: Facies Models: response to sea level change, by Walker and James Performance
Evaluation: Two exams and a written report

This course is a combination of two courses taught previously under the quarter system, environments of deposition (Ojakangas) and clastic sediment analysis (Mooers). The objective of the course is to develop an understanding of the architecture of sedimentary sequences in common environments of deposition and the nature of the physical processes that lead to their deposition. Lecture and lab will be augmented with field trips to local exposures of rocks that represent many of the depositional environments discussed in class.
