Notes
Course format: Two hours lecture and two
hours lab each week This course is a combination of two courses taught previously under the quarter system, environments of deposition (Ojakangas) and clastic sediment analysis (Mooers). The objective of the course is to develop an understanding of the architecture of sedimentary sequences in common environments of deposition and the nature of the physical processes that lead to their deposition. Lecture and lab will be augmented with field trips to local exposures of rocks that represent many of the depositional environments discussed in class.
*Additional reading materials focusing on physical processes appropriate to each topic will be assigned from books and periodicals. SPECIAL NEEDS: If you have a disability that may affect your performance in this class, please inform us at the start of the quarter. Methods, materials, or testing will be adapted as required for equitable participation. The University of Minnesota is committed to the policy that all of its students shall have equal educational opportunities.
