  • Students are required to have access to the following computing resources:
  • The University of Minnesota has entered into a campus agreement with Microsoft® to provide students with a choice of an upgrade to one version of Microsoft® Windows (XP or Vista), and one full version of a Microsoft® Office suite.
Go to http://msca.umn.edu and click on "Order Software" to log in with your UMD userid and UMD password, and order your CDs.
Please do not use the download option. The files are huge and download attempts have caused students a lot of grief.
Your student login will be screened to make sure you are properly enrolled with no holds on your records.
The student cost of the media is less than $12.
You can pick up your media at the UMD Bookstore Computer Corner soon after ordering online.
  • The Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE) laptop initiative requires all LSBE students enrolled beginning Fall 2008 to have a laptop, tablet, or netbook (Microsoft Windows- OR Apple-based system).

    Top POLICIES
    1. Students are responsible for information contained in the official syllabus (this document).
    2. Under student conduct policies administered by the UMD Office of Student and Community Standards students are generally responsible for helping to maintain a healthy classroom learning environment.
Distracting behaviors such as computer gaming and displays of offensive material such as porn or hate literature are prohibited in this class. Offensive behavior should be reported immediately to the instructor, who will give the offending student a choice to either stop the distracting behavior or else leave the classroom immediately.
We have so little time to learn so much material so please help us all to use this learning opportunity wisely.
    3. Assignment due dates and times are shown in this syllabus (this document). Assignment due dates will also be announced in class.
Emailing the instructor to ask about an assignment due date is typically an admission that you were not attending class.
However, if something in the syllabus is not clear please let the instructor know.
      Constructive feedback is sincerely appreciated.
    4. Beginning Fall Semester 2008 all LSBE students should meet the LSBE Laptop Requirement.
    5. To earn full credit for an assignment, it must be complete and correct on or before the due date and time.
    6. Late assignments will not be accepted for grading without a reason, i.e. evidence that the student is dealing with a situation that is beyond his/her control (illness, death in the family, etc.).
Statements such as "I was busy" or "I forgot" are merely excuses and are not reasons for accepting late work for grading.
    7. Assignments are to be completed in an "open" (unscheduled) lab environment or on your own computer.
There is no scheduled time in which you must attend the computer lab.
    8. Students will take their midterm and final examinations with the section in which they are enrolled unless advance approval of the instructor is given.
    9. Make-ups for in-class examinations require the instructor's approval in advance of the examination along with evidence that the student is dealing with circumstances that are beyond his/her control, i.e. a good reason (not just an excuse).
    10. Make-ups for WebVista online examinations require the instructor's approval to obtain the makeup exam password to access a WebVista Makeup Exam.
    11. A course grade of "incomplete" will not be given without advance approval of the instructor and a written, signed agreement with the student for removing the incomplete.
    12. Students are responsible for abiding by the UMD Policy on the Appropriate Use of Information Technology.
    13. The in-class final examination is required of all students.
    14. The course is over at the end of the scheduled final examination period.
Any grading issues regarding assignments or exams should be resolved before the final examination.
    15. Use of recording devices such as audio or video recording during class meetings is prohibited without advance approval of the instructor.
