(3 cr; SBE candidate or approved non-SBE student minoring in Bus Adm, or consent of college).
Introductory survey of production and operations as a functional area of management, including operations strategy, process design, forecasting, resource allocation, inventory management, scheduling, quality management, and project management. Computer applications of quantitative techniques to support operations decision making.

The expected student academic workload for this three (3) semester credit course is about nine (9) hours per week. Each semester credit generally requires about three (3) hours of work per week for the average student to obtain an average grade.

  2. Under student conduct policies administered by the UMD Office of Student and Community Standards students are generally responsible for helping to maintain a healthy classroom learning environment.
    Distracting behaviors such as computer gaming and displays of offensive material such as porn or hate literature are prohibited in this class. Offensive behavior should be reported immediately to the instructor, who will give the offending student a choice to either stop the distracting behavior or else leave the classroom immediately.
    We have so little time to learn so much material, so please help us all to use this learning opportunity wisely.

  4. Updates to course plans will be announced in class, and shown in the updates to this syllabus.
  5. LSBE students should meet the LSBE Laptop Initiative Requirement.

  7. Participation will be measured by daily class attendance, homework and other assignments.
  8. During in-class exams students may use a simple four-function calculator.
    Cell-phones, ear buds, and all other electronic gear must be turned off and stored out of sight during exams.
  9. Make-up examinations require the instructor's approval in advance of the examination along with evidence that the student is dealing with circumstances that are beyond his/her control.
  10. Students are required to take all midterm exams and the final examination for a course grade.
  11. This course is over at the end of the final examination period for your section.
    Any unresolved grading issues should be resolved *before* the final exam.
  12. A course grade of "incomplete" will not be given without a written, signed agreement and advance approval of the instructor.
  13. Use of digital recording devices (e.g. cell phones, audio/video recording) during class meetings is prohibited without advance approval of the instructor.
