For help: See Dreamweaver tutorials (a) basics (b) site management and also Tips for Designing Websites and Web Portfolios
Purpose:
To develop an Educ 5413 portfolio website with clear organizational structure. This must be uploaded to your UMD website.
Task:
Create a professional portfolio website using Macromedia Dreamweaver demonstrating a clear understanding of the principles of website design. See detailed step-by-step guidelines on how to set up your site and perform each step of the assignment.
Specific elements:
- Site plan (in Inspiration or using Post-its and then take a digital photo showing your site plan). See example of site plan.
- A clearly organized site structure, with files and folders for each of the portfolio components. Be able to explain and your site design.
- Appearance and professional presentation: All pages should be professional in appearance, have a title (check to see that they aren't "untitled") and free of spelling errors (be sure to run spell check on all pages). Navigation should be very clear and all links functional.
- Educ 5413 portfolio folder: Your portfolio must include your work from this Educ 5413 class. See Helen's Sample Educ 5413 Website example.
Specifically you need to have:
- A home page (called 5413home.htm) that has on it:
- A heading "Your name Educ 5413 portfolio"
- A picture of yourself (note: you will need to upload the picture of yourself to your 5413 folder).
- A table that lists all of your assignments for the course and provides links to all of your work within the folder.
- A "page last updated" line that updates automatically every time you save this page
- A "mail to" link that provides your e-mail address
- A page title (so that it doesn't show up in your browser as "untitled")
- A "cover sheet" for each assignment which will be an html file (i.e. a web page with the extension ".html" or ".htm") that describes briefly (a) the purpose of the assignment (b) what your work on this assignment shows about your technology and teaching with technology knowledge and skills.
- Then from the assignment cover sheet you will provide a link to the actual assignment (a) saved as a web page or, if the assignment is a web page (e.g. your TeacherWeb.com or blogger.com assignments), then linked to the web page of these assignments (b) in its native format such as PowerPoint or Microsoft Word).
What you should turn in:
- E-mail Helen (hrallis@d.umn.edu) with the URL of your Educ 5413 portfolio.
- Turn in a hard copy of your site plan (or you may (a) e-mail as an attachment your Inspiration map or your site or a digital photo showing your site organization using Post-Its or (b) upload the map of your site to your website and link to it from your 5413 home page.
