Exercise using the text properties palette

Step 1.

To try out each of the functions described in the guideline, begin by entering the following text, pressing the return key at the end of each line (copy the following, with no formatting yet):

Welcome to (yourname)'s Home Page

These are some of my favorite web sites:

ZDNet - http://www.zdnet.com/

Your Expedition - http://yourexpedition.com/

Here is a list of things I like to do:

Sea kayaking

The Apostle Islands

Sand Island

Basswood Island

Split Rock

Cross country skiing

Canoeing

Step 2.

Using the text properties palette, format the text you typed so that it appears as follows (the text in parentheses explains how to apply the change to each line):

Welcome to (Yourname)'s Home Page

[heading 1, Arial font, aligned center]

  1. ZDNet - http://www.zdnet.com/
  2. Your Expedition - http://yourexpedition.com/

Here is a list of things I like to do:

"Favorite things.." is heading 2

  1. Ordered (numbered) list. To create this, highlight the 2 lines of test, then click on the ordered list icon.
  2. To create links, copy the URL for each, highlight the words (e.g ZDNet), then in the link box on palette, paste the URL.

"List of things.." Is heading 3:

  • Unordered (bulleted) list. To create this:
  • Highlight the whole list (from "sea kayaking all the way to "canoeing.") and click on the Unordered list icon
  • Next, highlight from "The Apostle.." to the end of "Split Rock" and click on the indent (right) icon.
  • Next, highlight the 2 items "Sand Island" and "Basswood Island" and again click on the indent (right) icon.

Finally, change the text style & size:

  • Highlight "cross country skiing" and click on the bold icon. Then from the size box select -5.
  • Highlight "canoeing", click on the italics icon, and from the size box select +7
