How to share a file in Google Drive, using an example of sharing a video

  1. Upload your file (a document of any kind, including a video) by clicking on the "new" button in your Google Drive --> then click on "file" and follow the prompts to locate and upload your file:

  2. Once your file has been uploaded, it will show up in the list of files in your drive. Double click on the file that you want to share to open it. For example, the screenshot below shows the video that I want to share:

  3. In this case, I have selected the video. Once the video opens, click on the share icon at the top of the screen:

  4. Next, click on the "Advanced" link to open up the options for selecting your audience:

  5. Next, click on the "change" link so that you can change the permissions of the video from private:

  6. Choose from the options provided (you can make your file public, or limit using one of the choices. e.g. I have selected to share the video only with people at the University of Minnesota who have the link:

  7. Finally, copy the URL of the file as you will need to provide this to the people with whome you are sharing the file (in this case, the link to the video file):
