Labyrinthitis

inflammation of inner ear
usually caused by a viral infection
- 1-2 weeks after the flu or a cold
- very rarely follows a middle ear infection
primary symptom is vertigo (see BPV)
- may cause temporary hearing loss and/or tinnitus
no treatment (except in very rare cases of bacterial infection)
- antiemetic drugs may be used to control nausea and vomiting
