The Department of Mathematics and Statistics
University of Minnesota Duluth

2022 RESEARCH PROGRAM IN COMBINATORICS AND
COMBINATORIAL NUMBER THEORY
Supported by the NSA and Jane Street Capital

The objective of the eight-week program is to provide an opportunity for eight
undergraduate students to learn firsthand the nature of mathematical
research. The participants will conduct research under the guidance of the
program director and experienced researchers from Princeton and Harvard who
are past program alumni on problems in combinatorics, combinatorial number theory,
and graph theory.

Dates: May 25 - July 20, 2022
Stipend: Due to limited funding, stipends are not available.
Some departments will fund their students. Please inquire about this.
Allowances: Travel up to $750 and free on-campus apartment housing.
Location: University of Minnesota Duluth
Deadline: February 15, 2022

Applicants will be selected on the basis of motivation, scholarly aptitude, and a projection
of the likely benefits to the participant and the program. To qualify for travel expenses and
free housing an applicant must be U.S. citizen (or national) or have permanent resident status.
International students with full-funding are eligible. On-campus housing is approximately $1450 for eight weeks.

The exact starting and ending dates as well as the length of stay are negotiable. There will be
organized social and recreational activities such as biking, rafting and hiking.

Applications can be submitted at
MathPrograms

A complete application consists of the standard cover sheet (ignore current title/dates,
"highest degree/institution/dates"), two letters of recommendation; and date of birth);
a transcript (it need not be official) OR a list of all college/university level
courses with grades; a statement explaining your interest in combinatorics, number theory, and graph
theory, your long-term career plans, any experiences that especially qualify you for participation, your
