This one (and two) credit web-based course takes a family systems perspective in examining the effects of alcohol problems on children and families. Topics will include: epidemiology, etiology, screening, assessment, diagnosis, treatment options, specialized populations and child welfare impacts.

First of all I would like to welcome you to this on-line course. This website will provide you information regarding the expectations, procedures, assignments and readings that are required for the course.

I encourage you to begin this experience by exploring the various links and components throughout the course website. It is important that if you have questions or concerns that you let me know as soon as possible so they can be addressed. jgarriso@d.umn.edu

There may be changes and updates as we go through the class together. You will be notified by email any changes that I make to the site. Information that is added to a course website will be marked in green font and italized. I will also put a note at the top of the webpage alerting you to the changes and the dates that they were made.

Just like other MSW courses, this course has a syllabus. Included in the syllabus is course information and expectations as well as contact information for me.

You will occasionally get emails from me requesting your feedback and comments. This is a very important component of the course in that it provides me with valuable feedback about your progress, questions and concerns. To make this course successful it is important for us to initiate and maintain communication.

This may be a new way of taking courses for you. I encourage you to contact me with questions you have about the process. We are all learning in this course!
