Text:              Linear Algebra and its Applications Third Edition, by David Lay.
I will also pass out notes that supplement and extend upon the
material in the book from time to time.

References:    Linear Algebra and its Applications, Strang
                      Linear Algebra, Hoffman and Kunze

Grades:         Grades will be based on a 200 point final, three 100 point tests and 100
points in the form of homework assignments, for a total of 600 points.
Homework will be graded on a 90-80-70-60 scale, hour exams will probably
be graded on a more generous scale.

Final Exam:   Saturday, Dec. 19, 12:00-1:55 PM

Topics:           Review of Linear Equations and Matrices,
                     Determinants,                           Vector Spaces,
                     Linear Transformations,             Diagonalizability,
                     Inner Product Spaces,               Orthogonal Diagonalization

Notes:            You should be familiar with most of the material in the first three chapters
from Math 3280 so what we will actually do is cover chapters 1, 2 very
quickly and then cover chapters 3-7 from the textbook (with some
supplemental material as well.)  This is optimistic but I want to get deep into
                      chapter 6.

Individuals who have any disability, either permanent or temporary, which
might affect their ability to perform in this class should contact me as soon as
possible so that I can adapt methods, materials or tests as needed to provide
                     for equitable participation.

"They" tell me I have to say something about UMD’s Academic Standards
                     Policy.  Here is a link.
