:          9-9:50  WF, 10-10:50 Th, 11-11:50 MWThF, and by appointment.

Text:             Discrete Mathematics and its Applications, Rosen, Sixth Edition


Grades:       Grades will be based on a 200 point final, three 100 point tests and 100 points in the
                    form of homework assignments, for a total of 600 points. Homework will be graded on
                    a strict 90-80-70-60 scale, hour exams will probably be graded on a more generous scale.


Tentative syllabus:
                    Logic, Sets, Proofs:                                           Sections 1.1-1.7
                    Sets, Functions, Sequences,                              Sections 2.1-2.4
                    Algorithms and Complexity (maybe!):             Sections 3.1-3.3
                    Mathematical Induction:                                   Sections 4.1, 4.2
                    Basic Counting techniques, Combinations
                    and Permutations, Binomial Coefficients:         Sections 5.1-5.5
                    Recurrence Relations, Inclusion-Exclusion:     Sections 7.1-7.3, 7.5
                    Relations (if time permits):                                Sections 8.1, 8.5
                    Topics from Chapters 9, 10 as time permits.

Exams:        I anticipate that exams will be during the 4th, 8th and 13th weeks of classes.
                    I will announce the date of each exam at least one week in advance.
                    Final:  4:00 - 5:55, Monday, December 21.
