Hey! It cost you a bunch of money... so keep an eye on it!
Your new laptop wasn't cheap. Don't leave it unattended. Security cameras mounted in labs should help, but you are responsible for this valuable tool.
LEARN ABOUT LAPTOP ERGONOMICS
The design of laptops violates a basic ergonomic requirement for a computer, namely that the keyboard and screen are separated. Pay special attention to how you use your laptop because improper workstation set up can cause you physical problems.

SAMBA >> MY FILES > MY WEB
What is Samba:
http://www.d.umn.edu/itss/computing/samba/
ITSS's Samba server allows you to create personal file storage space on your central system account and access your personal web space. Files you store here are backed up nightly. While there is no fee to create your personal directory, there is a charge for files stored here (see Rates and Fees for details).
MANAGE YOUR FILE STORAGE > MYFILES > MYWEB
Avoid overusing your allotted file storage (100 MB)

Mac OSX: Setting up personal file storage
You must be on the UMD network to connect to the Samba MyFiles or MyWeb.
OR configure to connect from off campus.
