What are the pros and cons to spending your college years in duluth?

The University of Minnesota: Duluth is a very open ended school as far as areas of study go. Since it is a large public university it provides a range of options for major choices. If you are unsure of what you would like to study, this university is a good place to start. Tuition is fairly reasonable if you are an in-state student. It is not as expensive as a private school. There is a diverse group of students who attend the university, since it is public. The Town of Duluth is a nice one. It has a small town feel to it while still being very large. The University does a surprisingly good job keeping people entertained through out the year. They have a good entertainment program including Late Night Kirby, which provides some very well known and well put together bands. And of course, John D. Schwetman as a professor is always a bonus.

As a town of over 85,000 people, Duluth, the third largest city of Minneota, is a culturaly diverse town. However, if a student of the University of Minnesota Duluth is accustomed to to living amongst the expansive Twin Cities, Duluth can seem limited in it's offerings. Duluth lacks dining establishments favored by many college students like; Chipotle, Buffalo Wild Wings, Noodles and Company, Panera, etc. The fact that these popular restaurants are missing from the town would not be so intolerable if the Dining Center food was good, but unfortunately the food served at the "DC" is flat out terrible. The night life of down-town Duluth is also toned down compared to Minneapolis and St. Paul. If one is looking to visit a dance club or night bar, They would have to travel out of the city to Superior. The weather of Duluth is also notorious for being the harshest in all of Minnesota. Bitter cold winters can be a turn-off to those who don't appreciate winter.
