Getting to Know Your Academic Advisor

As an incoming freshman, one of the most important things to learn is how to utilize your academic advisor. They are there to help and guide you along the way so meeting with them is essential.

These are some of the things you can expect from your academic advisor:

• Being available at specific times.
  • Having office hours.
  • Appointments.
• Returning all e-mails and voicemails in a timely manner.
• Being knowledgeable of majors and minors.
  • Necessary courses.
  • How many years needed to graduate.
  • Different jobs available after college.
• Offer good advice and be open to suggestions.
• Be friendly, kind and understanding.
  • Every student is different and will have their own ways of handling things.
  • Be willing to make time for their students needs.
• Help you create a Personal Academic Planner.
