GO GREEN UMD!!!

Welcome new students, I would like to inform you on some environmental issues occuring at UMD, and what we can do to prevent them.

Recycling, no doubt a huge issue in the world, is slowly progressing in attempt to reduce waste levels among the rising population. As you know, waste contributes to many of our environmental problems. But with a little more effort from each individual, this issue can be considerably lessened. I believe that a few simple steps, along with some dedication and contribution from UMD's students and staffs, can make our campus a better place.

Here are some suggestions to keep in mind:

• Please keep an eye out for areas where there are bins for different recyclables.They are sparsed out in the school, within close range, and will prevent the problem of recyclables ending up in the trash cans.
• In dorm rooms, each student is given their own garbage and recycling bin. USE THEM! For convenience, there are rooms on each floor where you can seperate your items. (Such as pizza boxes, pop cans and food scraps.)
• Outside most of the main entrances there are trash cans. Please hold onto unwanted garbage until you find a trash can, do NOT throw them on the ground. This will make life easier for the workers that help clean our campus, and will make our campus more beautiful to look at. Nobody likes to see litter and cig butts laying all over.

There are many other things you can do to improve the way our environment looks, and it can start with little steps at your own campus. Just think about how you would like to live, and get into action!
