When you arrive at college for the first time as a
freshman you are away from your parents for good. No more do they expect you to
be home by curfew, nor can they call and check up on and expect to do anything
about it. Partying is one of the most fun things about college, for some
students, but it’s very easy to get caught up in it and see your grades drop
drastically. There is controversy among many people here at UMD about alcohol.
It is in your best interest to learn all the policies about alcohol and to know
the consequences. High school was pretty
easy compared to college. This is a completely new experience for all freshmen no
matter what. Expect a wake-up call after your first exam or research paper. The
best advice I heard about college is to treat it like an eight to five o’clock job.
Study and to class from eight to five and you will realize that it may be very
difficult but there is a lot free time to spare.
