Moodle Forum Assignments for English 3563

Both thoughtful insight and engagement with fellow scholars are integral pieces in your education, and this assignment requires us to take time to consider the texts we read, write an original post, and respond to a peer's posting. You will complete the following assignments on the Moodle Web Forum designated for Fall 2015 English 3563.

Each of the three main assignments requires one initial posting and at least one response of 50 words minimum to a classmate's posting.

  1. Reflection on "Part 1" Reading. (150 words) Choose one selection from our readings thus far that you find particularly interesting. Reflect on why this particular piece is interesting to you and perhaps how these early explorers shaped the course of American history. Refer to specific details in the selection to explain your thoughts. You must restrict your choice to the selections on the syllabus for this class. DUE WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th, 2015. RESPONSE DUE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21st.

  2. Sentence Analysis on "Part 2" Reading. (200 words) Choose one sentence from a selection from the Part 2 readings that you find distinctive in some way. Your writing may explain how the sentence does one of the following: embodies the selection as a whole, exemplifies the tone of the reading, proves that it somehow represents a key theme in the selection. As with your reflection, refer to specific details from the passage to support your use of this one sentence, and ensure that you are using a selection from the syllabus. DUE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28th, 2015. RESPONSE DUE WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7th.

  3. Character Analysis: Uncle Tom's Cabin: (300 words) Choose one character from Uncle Tom's Cabin and make an argument about one of the following:

    • What drives or motivates the character?
    • What trait best describes the character?
    • Is this character heroic or villainous?
    • Which act best defines this character?

As this is an argument, you must try to convince your classmates of the validity of your assertion. To do this, you must support your claim with specific points in the text. DUE WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11th, 2015. RESPONSE DUE MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16th.
