Final Exam Guidelines

The final exam will take place on Thursday, December 14th, 2017, at 10am.

Objective: Revise your Op Ed Assignment and write persuasively about your revision process.

Procedure:

  1. Take another look at the graded Op Ed Assignment that you turned in on September 21st, 2017.
  2. Revise it in response to feedback that you received from me and with the addition of two APA-formatted sources. These may be articles in They Say / I Say, if applicable.
  3. Adjust the thesis statement and organization to make the argument more suitable for an academic audience.
  4. Add an APA-formatted list of references (with a minimum of two sources on it).
  5. Bring the revised copy of the Op Ed assignment with you to class on December 14th, 2017, at 10am.
  6. Write an in-class writing assignment in response to a prompt in Moodle that asks you to write about what your revisions were, why you revised the Op Ed in this manner, who your target audience is, what the greatest challenges were and other relevant details.

Grading standards:

This exam is worth 10% of your final grade, and I will base your grade on the following criteria:

  1. A clear account of concrete revisions to the Op Ed paper.
  2. A strong rationale for these revisions.
  3. References to specific writing concepts that we examined this semester in Writing 1120.
  4. A command of Edited Standard Written English demonstrating that the writer has carefully revised and proofread to remove grammatical and spelling errors.
