Web-X Assignments for English 1001

Signing in to Web-X

  1. Go to "http://www.d.umn.edu/webx/".

  2. DO NOT REGISTER. Simply log in instead.

  3. Log in using your UMD login ID (the first part of your e-mail address) and "webx" as your password (unless you have used Web-X in a previous class, in which case your password should still be the same as before).

  4. Once you are logged in, a list of folders will appear. You will want the one titled "John Schwetman."

  5. On your first visit, click on "Preferences" to give yourself a new password and an image to identify yourself with.

  6. By the following deadlines, post your work and respond to that of your classmates.

Grading Standards

You will receive a grade on Web-X assignments based on the following factors:

Clarity of the arguments that you make.

Understanding of the subject matter.

Persuasiveness.

Assignments

FOR MONDAY FEB 6th: Write a thesis statement and brief topic overview for your research paper. This can change between now and when you turn in your final paper, of course. 200 words minimum. Due by midnight on Monday.

FOR MONDAY FEB 13TH: Choose a classmate's topic and respond to it. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the proposed argument. Do you anticipate any pitfalls? (150 words minimum)
