Presentations on
Short Stories

Due Dates: Requirements:
Sign up for a time and date to present
(Consult the course Moodle page for a schedule of student presentations.)
Individually or as part of a group
5-10 minute oral presentation
(Groups should take 5 minutes per group member.)

Objective

Choose one short story from the syllabus for this class and present it to the class. Provide your own interpretation of the story and make the case for those details that are, in your view, the most important. How does this story compare to the other stories we read by this author?

Procedure

  1. Sign up for one short story on the syllabus (not including short stories by O'Connor). Work with the other students who have signed up for that author to consider shared issues across that author's stories.

  2. Take notes on the story's peculiaritiesÑwhat makes this short story different from all of the others? You may build this presentation out of ideas that you discussed in your paper on a short story. You may also use visual aids if they wish (chalkboard, PowerPoint, etc.). You may present your analysis individually, or as part of a group of students addressing the same author.

  3. Sign up for a presentation slot some time before Wednesday, January 27th, 2016.

Grading Standards

Presentations will receive A-F grades based on the following criteria:

Adherence to topic guidelines.

Clarity of the argument about the story's meaning.

Effective use of examples from the text.

Creativity in interpreting specific quotations from the story.
