The following paintings explain some of the conflicting influences
in Robert Frost's poetry. Frost is too late to count as a symbolist
like Moreau and Puvis de Chavannes, but is never quite as radical as
the modernist painter Georges Braque. Indeed, Frost's poetry derives
strength from being in between these two movements.
