Some famous social psychologists . . . .
George Herbert Mead (1863-1931)
Social philosopher who is the founder of symbolic interactionism.

...and his student, Herbert Blumer (1900-1987)
Blumer coined the term, "symbolic interactionism."

Charles Horton Cooley (1864-1929)
Social psychologist best known for his concept, "the looking-glass self."

Kurt Lewin (1890-1947)
One of the founders of the field of social psychology.
Lewin said that behavior is a function of the person and the environment. This, to me, is the essence of the field of social psychology -- i.e., that human behavior is best understood by considering the relationship between individuals and the social settings in which they find themselves.

Albert Bandura
The founder of Social Learning Theory.

Stanley Milgram
Most known for his studies on obedience.

Philip Zimbardo
